We are pleased to announce our partnership with Ocean Network Express (ONE), a global container shipping company. Together, we are embarking on a journey to address the pressing issue of clean water access in underserved communities in Ghana and Kenya. In total we will install six solar-powered communal kiosks and three school taps, reaching 7,000 people. This collaboration holds the promise of transforming lives by providing safe drinking water, enhancing health, education, and overall well-being.
Empowering Communities through Clean Water Solutions
At Project Maji, we recognize the fundamental importance of clean water for thriving communities. Our partnership with ONE signifies a significant step toward realizing this vision. With their support, we are implementing sustainable solar-powered water access points that will play a pivotal role in changing the lives of individuals and families who have long struggled with water scarcity.
Bridging the Gap with Solar-Powered Solutions
In Ghana, ONE's sponsorship has facilitated the deployment of the Project Maji River Solution, featuring a pumping and filtration station that supplies safe water to three Maji towers and a primary school. This initiative benefits communities along the Volta River in Adidokpoe and Afalekpoe, providing clean water for over 4500 people. Similarly, in Kenya, ONE's support has enabled the establishment of the Maji Plus system, a small solar piped system delivering safe water to a population of 3000. By providing sustainable access to safe water, ONE and Project Maji are not only safeguarding individual health but also sparking positive transformations across these communities. The site commissioning ceremony for the official handover to the communities in Ghana occurred on 2 August. We're delighted to share some captivating photos from this event. We expect the Kenya sites to be inaugurated in September 2023. Be sure to follow our social media channels and check our website for ongoing updates.
A Shared Commitment to Sub-Saharan Africa
Our partnership with ONE reaffirms our commitment to Sub-Saharan Africa, a region where access to clean water is a pressing need. In Kenya, around 41% of the population does not have access to clean and safe drinking water sources. With established offices in key African countries and the recent launch of Ocean Network Express Kenya Ltd, ONE is demonstrating its dedication to giving back and sustainable development. Together, we are creating an enduring impact that extends beyond business operations.
"We are thrilled to collaborate with Project Maji to address the critical water crisis affecting underserved communities in Ghana and Kenya," said Jeremy Nixon, CEO at Ocean Network Express. "Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and through our partnership, we are working towards creating a positive ripple effect that will extend beyond health benefits to areas like education, income levels, and gender empowerment."
Envisioning a Brighter Future Together
Our Founder & CEO, Sunil Lalvani, captures the spirit of this partnership:
"At Project Maji, our mission is to transform lives by providing sustainable access to safe water. We are honoured to join forces with Ocean Network Express in our pursuit of this noble goal. The sponsored River solution for the Volta River communities exemplifies the power of partnerships in creating sustainable impact. Together, we can bring safe water to those who need it most, empowering communities and fostering a brighter, healthier future for all."
As we set out on this transformative journey with ONE, we extend an invitation to other organizations and stakeholders to unite with us in our vision to create lasting change. Together, we can uplift communities, improve health, and drive economic progress through sustainable water solutions.
